COLD VR, seen as a spiritual successor to the much-loved SUPERHOT VR from 2016, is set to launch on Quest and PC VR headsets next month, with the PSVR 2 version following later on.
SUPERHOT VR has certainly stood the test of time, maintaining its charm over the years. It’s interesting that more developers haven’t tried to mimic its distinctive time-stopping gameplay mechanic. However, COLD VR is taking a different approach by tweaking this formula. Instead of slowing down time when you move more leisurely, in COLD VR, doing so accelerates the flow of time and amps up the aggression of your AI adversaries. Mull over your next move for too long, and you might find yourself in a tough spot.
Recently, ALLWARE shared exciting news in a new trailer, announcing their collaboration with publisher Perp Games to bring COLD VR to Quest and PC VR devices on January 21st, 2025. While the PSVR 2 release is confirmed, it’s expected to land a bit later.
The game not only features increasingly challenging enemy AI but also integrates various environmental threats, such as deadly lasers and moving platforms, alongside some unexpected twists and turns for those willing to explore deeper.
Carlos Alfonso from ALLWARE expressed his enthusiasm about the venture: “Developing COLD VR has been an incredible journey. The support from Perp Games has been phenomenal, making it possible to offer players a unique experience where time itself is a core element of gameplay. Their assistance has been vital in reaching a broader audience than I had ever envisioned. Thanks to Perp, fans will soon enjoy COLD VR on PSVR2 and Quest, fulfilling a dream for a much larger spectrum of players. I’m eagerly looking forward to the exciting future ahead!”
You can currently add COLD VR to your wishlist across all platforms. It will be priced at $19.99, £14.99, or €19.99. It’s available for pre-order on the Horizon Store for Quest 2/3/Pro, Steam for PC VR, and the PlayStation Store for PSVR 2.
