Last week, Sony shared some pretty exciting news for Days Gone fans: a PS5 remaster is in the works. But there’s a bit of a hiccup if you originally snagged the game through PS Plus.
Here’s the scoop: at some point, probably when you were busy enjoying Sony’s regular PS Plus freebies, Days Gone was part of the monthly lineup. So, if you claimed it back then, it’s sitting in your library right now. You’d think that with the news of a PS5 remaster, it’d be a happy day for everyone who got their hands on the PS4 version. And yes, it sort of is—if you paid for your copy. If you did, you can upgrade to the remastered version for just $10. Unfortunately, that’s not the case if you got the game for free through PS Plus.
This little detail emerged in the fine print from Bend Studio’s announcement about the upgrade process. It clearly states, “PS4 game redemptions via PlayStation Plus are not eligible for upgrade.” Odd choice, right? You’d think Sony would let folks who got it through PS Plus pay a small fee for the upgrade, but maybe they decided they’re more likely to cash in if people buy the remaster at full price.
When Days Gone first hit the PS4 back in 2019, it received a mixed bag of reviews. Despite its average critical reception, it sold reasonably well. However, the hope for a sequel dwindled when Bend Studio announced last year that they’re not working on one. There was some buzz about a film adaptation in 2022, but since then, there hasn’t been much chatter. So, this remaster could be our last big news about the game.
Mark your calendars because Days Gone Remastered is set to release on April 25 for PS5 and PC.
