Snap Offers Discounted Spectacles AR Glasses for Students and Teachers

Snap, the creator of Snapchat, is taking a step to make its newest Spectacles AR Glasses more accessible for students and teachers. They’ve introduced an educational discount that slashes the original $1,200 price tag by half.

Launched in September 2024, Snap’s fifth-generation Spectacles, known as Spectacles ’24, are geared primarily towards developers. The pricing structure is set at $100 per month for those who commit to a year-long subscription.

The latest version of Snap’s AR glasses offers significant improvements over its predecessor, the fourth-gen model released back in 2021. These enhancements include a broader field-of-view, higher resolution, hand-tracking capabilities, and a revamped software stack. However, the cost has proven a hurdle for many students and teachers who have an interest in exploring or developing AR applications.

Now, those in education can benefit from a new discount that reduces the price of these Spectacles to $49.50 per month with a contract of at least 12 months. After the first year, the monthly charge remains at $49.50. Alternatively, you can pay a lump sum of $594 to cover the first year, after which the monthly fee continues at $49.50.

To qualify for this offer, you need a .edu email address or an email from another accredited educational institution. This discount is available to students and teachers in several regions including the USA, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Austria, and the Netherlands.
