Developer People Can Fly and Sony Interactive Entertainment have teamed up to work on an exciting new video game, currently known only by its code name, “Project Delta.” While the details are still under wraps, there’s quite a buzz in the gaming community, particularly among PlayStation enthusiasts who are hoping this might signal the return of a beloved series like SOCOM.
A sharp-eyed member of the PS5 subreddit spotted the collaboration announcement, where it was revealed that the Polish studio, known for popular shooters such as Outriders and Gears of War: Judgment, will be co-developing a title based on an existing Sony property. This narrows down the possibilities somewhat, leading many fans to speculate about what this new project could be. The consensus seems to be leaning towards a new entry in the SOCOM series, although names like Killzone, Resistance, and Warhawk are being thrown around as possibilities as well.
One passionate user remarked, “It’s got to be either Socom or Killzone since that’s right up this developer’s alley,” while another suggested, “Resistance is also a strong possibility.” Among the guesses, one fan chimed in with a hint of nostalgia, “A Warhawk reboot would be amazing—Sony had a gem with that one, but they just didn’t make it shine.”
Another hopeful fan added, “Please, let it be Resistance.” While all these are just educated guesses at this point, the reality is no one truly knows what “Project Delta” will evolve into—there’s even a chance it could turn out to be something completely new or unexpected, like a third-person shooter spin-off from Knack.
For those unfamiliar, SOCOM was a series of third-person tactical shooters that graced the PS2, PS3, and PSP platforms. The most recent installment, SOCOM 4: U.S. Navy SEALs, was released in 2011 but received a lukewarm reception, with an average Metacritic score of 67. Since then, the franchise has been largely quiet, leaving room for speculation about its potential revival.
