Ever since the announcement of Forza Horizon 5 making its way to the PS5, it seems like the possibility of Xbox games migrating to Sony’s platform is more alive than ever. Lately, there’s been quite the buzz suggesting that Marcus Fenix and his battle against the Locust Horde might soon make their debut on PlayStation consoles. The recent chatter points towards a collection of the original Gears of War trilogy being in the works, set to launch on both PS5 and Xbox Series X|S at the same time.
## A Gears of War Collection Heads to PS5
The ever-reliable leaker, eXtas1s, hints that this Gears of War collection is indeed in development. They’re not entirely sure when an announcement will drop, but they’re confident it’s aiming for a multiplatform release from day one. What’s more, it’s expected to feature cross-play, enabling gamers across PC, Xbox, and PlayStation to team up or battle it out seamlessly.
eXtas1s shared, “Talking about the Gears Collection hasn’t been easy, as getting solid proof of its existence took quite the effort. But from what I’ve gathered, it does seem real, and once announced, it will be available on multiple platforms right away,” as translated by ResetEra’s Rychu. They added, “There will be cross-platform play for the remastered older Gears titles. I can’t yet confirm if it will end up on the Switch, but players on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation should be able to enjoy it together.”
This isn’t the first whisper we’ve heard about Gears of War possibly coming to PS5. Earlier this month, Jez Corden of Windows Central suggested that Gears of War: Ultimate Edition might land on Sony’s console by 2025.
As with any rumors, it’s always wise to stay a bit skeptical until there’s something official to go on. Despite various insiders seemingly backing up these claims, game development is a constantly shifting landscape, and plans can change overnight. For now, it remains in the realm of dreams—at least until we hear otherwise.
