Ancient Dungeon VR, the hit rogue-lite dungeon crawler, has just rolled out a fantastic update for PSVR 2, introducing multiplayer co-op to its adventure.
When it first hit the scene in 2021, launching on Steam Early Access and the short-lived App Lab for Quest, Ancient Dungeon was crafted as a solo venture. It offered players more than 20 hours of exploring intricate dungeons while engaging in physics-based combat against blocky adversaries like wizards, skeletons, and recognizable D&D-style enemies.
Fast forward to mid-2024, the game expanded its horizons by adding a four-player co-op mode to the Quest and SteamVR versions. Sadly, PSVR 2 users were missing out on this feature when it made its debut on that platform in December 2023.
But now, fans on PSVR 2 can rejoice as the game’s developer, Eric Thullen, has gifted us with the eagerly anticipated multiplayer update. This allows up to four players to dive into the game’s procedurally generated dungeons, facing a myriad of traps and enemies together in cooperative play.
During a Reddit Q&A session, Thullen mentioned that cross-play isn’t yet available across the different game platforms. However, he did reassure fans that cross-play with Quest and PC VR is planned for the future.
Ancient Dungeon has become one of VR’s indie success stories. It initially gained momentum with a successful Kickstarter campaign in 2020 and later wowed players with a beta version that racked up over 1,000 positive reviews, boasting a score of 4.8/5.
Nearly five years on, the game is still going strong, regularly releasing updates. These include new weapons, cosmetics, insight upgrades, additional dungeon floors, and relics. Thullen and his team are diligently working on these features ahead of the game’s anticipated 1.0 release, which, according to a recent Steam update, is still a bit down the road.
If you want to dive into Ancient Dungeon VR, it’s available on Steam for PC VR headsets, the Horizon Store for Quest, and the PlayStation Store for PSVR 2, all priced at $20.
