When Sony started releasing some of its exclusive games on PC, there was a buzz of excitement among gamers. However, this was slightly dampened when players found out they needed to create a PlayStation Network (PSN) account to play these games. The good news now is that, following a recent update, PSN accounts are not mandatory for several PlayStation games that have been ported to PC.
You Still Need a PSN Account for Extra In-Game Goodies
The latest announcement comes from a PS Blog post by PlayStation’s Asad Qizilbash, who shared details about new in-game incentives for four PlayStation PC ports. The titles in question include God of War Ragnarok, Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered, and upcoming releases like Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, and The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered. Qizilbash explained that PSN accounts will become optional from tomorrow. However, if you’re interested in unlocking new in-game incentives or earning trophies, you’ll still need an account.
Qizilbash elaborates, “With the upcoming release of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 for PC, we’re aiming to introduce more perks for those who play with a PlayStation Network account,” he states. “The Last of Us Part II Remastered (arriving April 3, 2025), along with God of War Ragnarök and Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered, will soon feature additional content unlocks for those with PlayStation Network accounts.”
He continued, noting that having a PSN account will be optional for these games on PC. "Players who choose to sign into a PlayStation Network account will gain extra perks like trophies and the ability to manage friends," he added.
This update is likely to be well-received by PlayStation PC gamers. The requirement for a PSN account had been a point of contention since Helldivers 2 launched last year. Now, players can enjoy the games without the hassle of creating an additional account—unless they want the extras.
For those willing to register for a PSN account, here’s a breakdown of all the in-game bonuses available for each PlayStation PC title:
-
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2: Early access to the Spider-Man 2099 Black Suit and the Miles Morales 2099 Suit.
