Fantastic news has arrived for PlayStation enthusiasts and admirers of vibrant and whimsical gameplay—Astro Bot has snagged a major victory at the BAFTA awards. It wasn’t just any accolade; the charming game claimed the coveted Game of the Year award, triumphing over impressive contenders like Helldivers 2 and Balatro.
Astro Bot didn’t stop at just one win. It also scooped up several other awards, including those for Audio Achievement, Animation, Family, and Game Design. This success comes hot on the heels of its previous Game of the Year triumph at The Game Awards the preceding year, where once again, it outperformed many notable games in what was an extraordinarily competitive 2024.
During the awards ceremony, the team came together to accept their honors, but it was Nicolas Doucet who stepped up to deliver a heartfelt speech. He took a moment to appreciate the team back in Japan, saying, “A heartfelt thank you to everyone in Japan. They poured love and dedication into this game every single day, with no thoughts of accolades, just a desire to brighten people’s days.”
Doucet continued his gratitude, acknowledging key team members, the game’s composer, the entire PlayStation crew, and all the partners featured within Astro Bot. He expressed appreciation toward the BAFTA academy itself, as well as the families of the developers and the pioneers of the gaming industry who paved the way.
