A Korean studio by the name of Pixelity has revealed some exciting news for anime and gaming enthusiasts alike: they are in the process of developing an XR game centered around the classic ’90s anime, Neon Genesis Evangelion. Fans of the series might recall just how significant the anime was during its time, sparking a huge interest and leaving a lasting impact across the anime world.
Pixelity recently shared in a blog post that they’ve secured an official licensing deal with Japan’s Studio Khara to bring this XR game to life. The endeavor is ambitiously planned to unfold over three parts, with each segment drawing from the full breadth of the anime’s 26 episodes. The development of the first part is already underway, and it’s on track to make its debut in 2026.
For those deeply rooted in the world of Evangelion, the storyline is likely etched in your memory. The anime is set in the futuristic year of 2015, when humanity’s fate rests on the shoulders of Shinji Ikari, who finds himself as the pilot of the humanoid combat machine known as Evangelion. It’s humanity’s last bastion of hope against the enigmatic Angels threatening the city of Tokyo-3.
While Pixelity hasn’t yet specified which platforms the game will be available on, they have promised that players will get to dive into various locations with an immersive XR experience. Players can follow the timeline and events of Neon Genesis Evangelion, engage in thrilling battles, and complete missions that mirror the anime’s original adventures.
One intriguing aspect mentioned by the studio is the collaborative play feature, which lets players interact with different characters from the Evangelion saga. This element is sure to appeal to long-time fans eager to engage with the familiar faces from the series. Pixelity is eager to deliver a dynamic experience that encapsulates the essence of action-adventure games.
Established in 2017, Pixelity has a track record of creating notable VR games, including titles like Puttzzle (2023), Crazyworld VR (2022), and Rise of the Fallen (2018). Besides the Evangelion project, they are also developing two other VR games, The Patcher and Teahouse of Souls.
It’s worth mentioning that while Evangelion has previously ventured into VR territory, this marks the first time fans can enjoy an official at-home game. A few years back, the Bandai Namco-supported VR studio ‘Project i Can’ released a limited-time, four-player experience called Evangelion VR: The Throne of Souls at VR ZONE in Shinjuku, Japan. This new XR game by Pixelity, however, is poised to reach an even broader audience, allowing fans to relive the series in a whole new dimension.
