The beloved VR game, Arizona Sunshine, is preparing to say goodbye to its online multiplayer feature starting July 2025. The decision comes as a result of Unity’s plan to sunset the UNet Service.
Since its initial release in 2016, Arizona Sunshine has been a staple in the world of virtual reality, captivating players with its immersive gameplay. Despite its long-standing popularity, developer Vertigo Games announced that the game’s online multiplayer mode will cease operations on July 1, 2025. This closure is directly linked to Unity’s phase-out of the UNet Service, a platform crucial to running these multiplayer functions.
If you’re not familiar, UNet has been a cornerstone for multiplayer interactions in Unity Engine. However, since 2019, Unity has been scaling back its support for this service, with full discontinuation set for July 7, 2025. Vertigo’s proactive move aligns with these upcoming changes, ensuring their future developments remain sustainable.
The good news for fans of Arizona Sunshine is that the single-player campaign remains untouched. Similarly, the multiplayer experiences in Arizona Sunshine Remake and its sequel, Arizona Sunshine 2, will continue as usual. For those interested in upgrading, Vertigo offers a reasonable $10 discount on the Remake, provided you own the original game on the same platform through Quest, PlayStation, or Steam.
So, while it’s bittersweet to see an era end for Arizona Sunshine’s multiplayer, fans can look forward to experiencing its next chapters without interruption.
