In the realm of Marvel Rivals, facing off against Moon Knight can often feel like a daunting task. This character zips around, dropping ankhs that seem to eviscerate you as soon as you step into their zone of destruction. Especially when a match goes into overtime with everyone clustered around the payload, it’s a safe bet that there’s a Moon Knight lurking, ready to unleash his ultimate move for an easy team wipe—all while wearing a triumphant grin reminiscent of Iron Man.
With the release of the Season 1 balance patch, NetEase decided to give Moon Knight’s ultimate a bit of a boost. Now, the claws of Khonshu descend from the sky with even greater speed. So much so that it’s not uncommon to only catch the first bit of his taunting phrase, “The moon haunts you,” before you find yourself wiped out. But, there’s been some buzz on Reddit, particularly from user Sidewaysgts, suggesting that dying to his ultimate might not be entirely due to player error.
According to the Marvel Rivals official website, Moon Knight’s ultimate is supposed to call forth multiple ghostly claws, each dealing 75 damage within a confined area. However, Sidewaysgts uncovered a glitch: each claw is packing twice the punch and can even catch you if you’re just outside the designated danger zone. This anomaly with his ultimate could very well explain why even the sturdiest tanks are getting decimated.
Before letting frustration get the better of you, it’s important to note that the main issue isn’t simply its lethality—it’s how deceptively lethal it is. The double-damage and extended reach aren’t clearly communicated and are quite unjust. Add to that the fact that Moon Knight’s ultimate doesn’t trigger its audio cue if he’s taken down while performing it, and you’ve got a genuinely challenging opponent, even when you think you’re ready.
Despite this powerful ultimate, Moon Knight isn’t topping the charts as the most dominant character in the game right now. RivalsMeta reports indicate that his average win rate is among the lowest across competitive ranks. Nonetheless, this doesn’t stop him from being the most notorious character in quick matches currently.
Hopefully, this issue will be addressed with the Chinese New Year update set to roll out this Friday. Along with this update, players can look forward to new skins and a Rocket League-like mode, which might just be the sanctuary everyone’s seeking from Moon Knight’s onslaught.
