After the successful launch of Iron Meat in September, the dedicated crew at Retroware has been diligently planning significant content updates for their delightful modern-retro creation.
The first of these major updates has just hit Xbox, bringing a delightful array of new content for you to dive into.
Mirror, Mirror
A highly anticipated feature has arrived: Mirror Mode. This clever addition lets players tackle each level again, only this time traveling leftward. At first glance, flipping the x-axis might not seem monumental, but it truly revamps the challenge, offering fresh thrills as you face enemies and bosses from a whole new angle. You can activate this mode after completing the game once on any difficulty level.
Red Rapid Fire
Another exciting feature is the automatic Supercharge upgrade, the "third" tier in weapon enhancements. When the Supercharge is active, all of a player’s projectiles switch to a striking red color, transcending their original blue or green hues. So, if you’ve maxed out the power of one or two guns to green, you can try snagging a duplicate. This rewards you with the Rapid Fire upgrade, complete with eye-catching red projectiles.
My 1UPs, Thank You
Great news for players: extra lives collected during a level will carry over to the next. Now, if you finish a stage with a surplus of lives, you get to keep them as you proceed.
Visual Enhancements to Level Backgrounds
We’ve revisited certain level backgrounds, enhancing them with more intricate details to embody the unspoken narrative of Iron Meat. For instance, you’ll see a helicopter firing at Meat creatures in the Forest level, spikes added to the midboss on Base, surviving pilots appearing in the ending credits, and explosive effects from Meat meteors on the Train stage.
Other Updates
Besides ironing out minor bugs, we’ve also made several tweaks:
- Buffed the default damage of the “E”, “U,” and “M” guns.
- Introduced more Meat to various segments of the Moon Base.
- Adjusted the MI-24 helicopter boss patterns for clarity.
- Fine-tuned levels for fairness; for example, Meat worms are now defeatable as soon as they appear on Base, and Train’s Meat Mouth Doors are also destructible.
We’re excited to share these enhancements with players and look forward to unveiling even more content in future updates. Iron Meat is ready for you to explore now!
