Uh-oh. It seems Helldivers 2’s infamous Meridia black hole has finally devoured Angel’s Venture, the planet it had been ominously creeping towards. This ill-fated celestial body has now met a catastrophic end, leading Arrowhead to announce a period of mourning for its now lost citizens.
The doom of Angel’s Venture was almost a foregone conclusion. Evacuation orders had been issued well in advance, and as that massive, menacing purple black hole made its way towards Super Earth, it obliterated the planet in the most spectacular—and tragic—fashion.
“Angel’s Venture has been torn apart by the Meridian Singularity,” Arrowhead shared via a tweet, which featured a news broadcast for anyone who didn’t witness the event firsthand. “Finally, the Illuminate, those who hide behind a façade of intelligence and sophistication, have shown their true colors: they crave destruction. The President of Super Earth has announced a 24-hour period of Galaxy-wide mourning.”
For all you helldivers out there, it’s a somber moment, despite the visual spectacle of it all. Some considered it a total tragedy. Even a Reddit user, going by the moniker ‘DickBallsley,’ who had somewhat taken it upon themselves to avert Angel’s Venture’s demise, admitted defeat, having boldly stated earlier, “Y’all acting as if I would let that happen.”
In a follow-up post dripping with a humor-laced apology, they admitted, “I’m sorry everyone, I might have overdone it. Going all out wasn’t my best move. Next time, I’ll actually read what’s on the packet. This one’s on me.” Naturally, their peers in the community responded with the classic Obi-Wan Kenobi ‘You were the chosen one’ GIF.
So, while the galaxy mourns, there’s no time for rest—the battle is far from over. With the Meridian Singularity now set on a course directly toward Super Earth, there are several other planets on its potential warpath. The likely course of action will now focus on slowing it down, hopefully doing better this time against the continuous Illuminate onslaughts. Let’s cross our fingers that the next attempt will be more than just a visually impressive but ultimately futile endeavor.
