Developer FuturLab has decided to discontinue support for the VR version of PowerWash Simulator. In a recent statement on BlueSky, Kirsty Rigden, the CEO of FuturLab, expressed the company’s continued belief in the potential of virtual reality but highlighted that they were facing financial challenges with their current VR platforms. Although she didn’t specify, PowerWash Simulator VR was available on Meta’s Quest 2, 3, and Pro headsets.
“We found ourselves at a critical juncture,” Rigden shared. “We have an incredibly talented and dedicated VR team, but the platform was costing us more than it earned. And on top of that, we had a number of job openings for other projects that needed filling.”
Rigden explained that the decision was made to reallocate the VR team to these other projects. “While my ideal scenario would be to support PowerWash Simulator on every platform, my priority is always the job security of my team. I know this decision might disappoint our VR community, but I believe you would make the same choice if you were in my shoes.”
Since its launch in 2021, PowerWash Simulator has attracted over 12 million players. Its VR edition was released in November 2023.
