Exciting news for fans of strategy games: Sid Meier’s Civilization VII is getting a special VR makeover, set to launch exclusively on Quest 3 and 3S next week.
Playside Studios teamed up with Meta to bring Sid Meier’s Civilization VII – VR to the Quest platform on April 10th. This version promises both solo adventures and engaging online multiplayer sessions for Quest 3 users.
Much like its PC and console counterparts, your mission in the VR version is to steer your nation through the ages by selecting a leader and navigating the ever-changing landscape of alliances and conflicts among global powers.
For those new to the series, Civilization VII – VR starts you off by selecting a historical age, each offering its own set of challenges and rewards. You could begin in the Antiquity Age, where you’ll lay the groundwork for your empire; move on to the Exploration Age to discover new territories; or tackle the Modern Age, which focuses on advancing technology and industry.
What really distinguishes the VR iteration, aside from the undeniable thrill of VR itself, is its immersive ‘War Table’. This feature lets you manage your civilization as if playing a dynamic tabletop game, with the ability to zoom, pan, and tilt the table for the best strategic view.
Here, you’ll interact with other civilizations, going head-to-head with human and AI opponents. Use your skills to negotiate diplomatic peace treaties or, if necessary, gear up for battle.
The game will be available in both virtual and mixed reality modes. The mixed reality mode is particularly intriguing as it uses passthrough technology, allowing you to keep an eye on your real-world environment while playing.
Eager strategists can already preorder Sid Meier’s Civilization VII – VR in the Horizon Store for Quest 3 and Quest 3S, with the game retailing at $60. Don’t miss this opportunity to experience a beloved classic in a whole new dimension.
