And just like that, the era of enjoying Nintendo Switch Online without spending a dime has come to a close.
Following the much-anticipated re-release of Xenoblade Chronicles X, a beloved feature of the Nintendo Switch is wrapping up, and sadly, it won’t transition to the upcoming Switch 2.
Nintendo dropped the news this evening that the My Nintendo Gold program is set to end on March 25, right at the strike of 12:59 a.m. ET. For those of you unfamiliar, this program had a nifty offer: granting 1% of first-party physical release purchases in eShop credit during their initial year, and an impressive 5% back on all eShop buys. However, there’s a catch. The program will still run for physical games launched from March 25, 2024, until the cut-off date, covering titles like Endless Ocean: Luminous and Xenoblade Chronicles X Definitive Edition. Unfortunately, highly anticipated titles such as Pokemon Legends: Z-A and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond won’t make the cut.
In related news, there’s been an update to the Switch Online Vouchers page. It now specifies that these vouchers won’t work with Switch 2 titles. For those paying the $99 (or equivalent) for these vouchers under Nintendo Switch Online, the option to redeem them will remain available for first-party games on the current Switch, including the upcoming Legends Z-A and Prime 4.
With these changes on the horizon, it’s clear that Nintendo fans will need to adapt to a shifting landscape of perks and benefits.
