A creative Pokemon enthusiast recently unveiled a reimagining of Crustle by blending the essence of a classic RPG enemy with an existing Pokemon form. This imaginative redesign captures a fascinating concept, though it might be a terrifying sight for those living in the Pokemon universe.
Over the years, Pokemon has evolved by not just adding new creatures but introducing various forms and evolutions. Gigantamax and Mega Evolutions are a few examples of temporary transformations that fans have come to love, alongside new species with unique forms like Gimmighoul.
Now, fan artist Matratzfratz has drawn inspiration from Gimmighoul to create their version of Crustle, called the Chest Form. In this version, Crustle’s rocky back transforms into a treasure chest. Unlike Gimmighoul, this chest appears as a well-used loot box, with Crustle itself sporting pirate-like elements such as hook-like pincer claws. The artist even shared a variant of Crustle’s unevolved form, Dwebble, featuring a “Hadal Form” that looks like it occupies an aged diver’s helmet. Matratzfratz also adjusted Crustle’s type to Bug/Water and added a chilling detail: its treasure chest traps divers, digesting them slowly. This eerie idea adds an unsettling twist, akin to some of the more disturbing Pokedex entries in the franchise.
The creative endeavor has been well received by the Pokemon community, with fans sharing praise and suggestions. One fan commented that Crustle doesn’t need to be a Water-type despite its ocean setting, suggesting it could instead be a Bug/Grass-type. Another observer noted that this Crustle redesign resembles a Mimic, a classic RPG creature that tricks players by appearing as a treasure chest before attacking. The concept of encountering such a fearsome creature underwater heightens the thrill and dread.
In the official Pokemon games, introducing new forms keeps the extensive roster vibrant and exciting while offering endless battle strategy possibilities. Looking ahead, players may be focused on leveraging Mega Evolutions in battles. Returning favorites and newly introduced Mega Evolutions in Pokemon Legends: Z-A promise to shake up the game in intriguing ways.
