Who doesn’t enjoy a good battle pass? If you’re diving into Call of Duty Black Ops 6’s Squid Game crossover event starting today, January 3, through January 24, you might want to reassess that love.
This time around, there are not just one, but two battle passes up for grabs. There’s the usual standard one and a swanky premium version, all brimming with treats that scream your TV show preferences to those you’re tactically outmaneuvering online. But is this too much for the devoted CoD community that’s already well-versed in the art of the battle pass? Well, opinion seems split.
Let’s get into the details. According to the official announcement, the event introduces a new Red Light, Green Light multiplayer mode, along with its undead counterpart, Dead Light, Green Light. As you fight your way through, you’ll level up along the Squid Game Event Pass, which splits into two distinct paths: a regular, free one and a premium path priced at 1,100 COD Points, which translates to about $9.99/ÂŁ8.39. The premium path comes packed with enticing goodies like the “Front Man” operator as a top-tier reward, while the free option offers a couple of Squid Game-themed operator skins and other fun items.
Activision highlights, “Even if you stick to the Free reward track, you’ll unlock some great items during your gameplay. But if you upgrade to the Premium reward track, you’ll have access to a treasure trove of additional themed rewards,” including the “High Authority” XM4 Assault Rifle Blueprint, among other cool blueprints, skins, and emotes.
Now, are players thrilled about this new setup? The reaction has been mixed. Plenty of folks on Twitter and Reddit have expressed skepticism, with one user lightheartedly remarking, “We got battle passes inside of battle passes now.”
Alternatively, some players see the premium track as something optional, suggesting that if it doesn’t appeal to you, there’s no need to fret over it. The ongoing dialogue over microtransactions and whether purely cosmetic items justify such purchases is as lively as ever.
User SuperRSM weighed in, saying, “The content here rivals some of the more expensive CoD Point bundles currently available. Spending 1100 and actively playing the game feels like a fair deal compared to other store offerings. If they had packaged this as a standalone $20-30 store bundle, it would have likely gone unnoticed. Just view it as an ordinary store purchase and decide if it’s for you.”
Don’t overlook the additional store bundles accompanying the Squid Game event. There’s a Pink Guards Tracer Pack, The VIPs Tracer Pack, and the Young-hee Tracer Pack, though their prices remain under wraps.
So, what’s your take? Is it battle pass overload, or just right for you? Share your thoughts!
