Bigscreen has just rolled out details of its cutting-edge Beyond PC VR headset, marking a significant leap in both field-of-view (FOV) and visual clarity, courtesy of its innovative pancake lenses. With the introduction of an adjustable interpupillary distance (IPD) and a universal Lightseal facial interface, Bigscreen is targeting not only individual users but also appealing to businesses looking for a sleek and lightweight VR solution.
There’s an exciting twist with two models on offer: the Beyond 2 and the Beyond 2e. The ‘e’ in Beyond 2e isn’t just a nod to Apple’s iPhone naming; it signifies the addition of eye-tracking technology. This advanced capability delivers low-latency and privacy-centric tracking powered by AI, and it integrates seamlessly with SteamVR, OpenXR, and even platforms like VRChat. Users can get their hands on this via a beta program slated for summer 2025.
For the budget-conscious, the Beyond 2 is priced at $1,019, and the Beyond 2e at $1,219. However, loyal customers who own the original Beyond receive a special discount, bringing the prices down to $849 and $1049 respectively. Expect to see the first shipments in April, with a halo-style strap mount available later in Q3 2025. Both models will tempt users with color options like Carbon Black, Crystal Clear, and Nuclear Orange.
Much like its predecessor, the Beyond 2 series is designed to work smoothly with the SteamVR tracking standard. This means compatibility with SteamVR 1.0 and 2.0 base stations, and it supports an array of accessories including body trackers and storage walls compatible with Valve’s Index controllers.
Naturally, a VR-ready PC is a prerequisite to operate the Bigscreen Beyond 2, alongside the necessary base stations. Curious if your PC meets the requirements? Head over here for more details. While the headset won’t boast a resolution leap, as it still sports dual 1-inch 2,560 × 2,560 micro-OLED displays from the 2023 model, the star upgrade is the new pancake lenses. These lenses up the FOV to an impressive 116-degree diagonal from the previous 102 degrees.
The revamped design makes the Beyond 2 notably more featherweight, coming in at just 107 grams, which is quite a feat compared to other models like the Meta Quest 3 or Apple Vision Pro. Beyond 2 also boasts an enhanced display with better brightness and reduced glare, thanks to the new lens setup that offers remarkable clarity from edge to edge.
Venturing further into customization, Beyond 2 introduces an adjustable IPD mechanism. This adjustment, done with a simple tool, allows users to precisely set each lens for the cleanest viewing experience. Bigscreen touts this as a significant step forward from the fixed IPD system of its predecessor, which relied on facial scans to create a custom fit.
On the accessories front, the Beyond 2 continues to support the custom-fit cushions from its previous model. But it’s now coupled with a universal-fit Lightseal interface, making it more attractive to both home users interested in sharing and corporate environments.
Additionally, many past accessories remain compatible with the new model, including fiber optic cables, link boxes, and audio straps. Previous prescription lens inserts are also supported, although compatibility is limited to those produced after 2025 for the Beyond 2e.
The headset is packaged with a soft strap, but Bigscreen is introducing a halo-style mount in the third quarter of 2025, inspired by military night vision equipment. This new mount features adjustable tilt and eye relief settings, enhancing user comfort and adaptability.
Anticipate more details on pricing as the release date for the halo mount approaches. In the meantime, Bigscreen Beyond 2 is open for orders on its website. Shipments will initially reach areas like the US, Canada, Japan, UK, and Europe, with expansions planned for additional markets including South Korea, Israel, and the UAE later this year.
