Schell Games and Innersloth have exciting news for fans of Among Us: they’re bringing flatscreen support to the VR version launched in 2022. This new feature paves the way for seamless crossplay between VR and PC players.
Moreover, the beloved imposter-hunting game is undergoing a makeover and will now be known as Among Us 3D. This transition is particularly momentous for PC players as it introduces a first-person viewpoint, enhancing the gaming experience like never before.
Schell Games has ensured that Among Us 3D will enable PC users to effortlessly dive into cross-platform lobbies with their VR counterparts. Supported platforms for this feature include Quest, SteamVR, PSVR 2, and Pico headsets.
It’s important to note the revamped Among Us 3D stands alone and will not be compatible with the classic 2D version first released in 2018. This separation remains consistent since the launch of Among Us VR back in November 2022.
Ryan Hall, Project Director at Schell Games, expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming changes: “By bringing Among Us 3D to both VR and PC players, we’re creating more opportunities for those cheeky betrayals — it’s now even easier for your whole crew to join in on the antics!”
The rebranding will roll out in phases over upcoming months, with updates impacting store pages, websites, and in-game visuals.
Fans can also look forward to a fresh feature in Among Us 3D: an in-game currency dubbed ‘Stardust’. This currency is set to allow players to personalize their avatars with cosmetic items, which the developers mention will help in expanding the game further.
While there’s still no official word on the release date, eager players might not have to wait long. Among Us 3D is poised to make an appearance at Steam Next Fest, offering attendees an exclusive demo preview before its official launch.
