Gaijin Entertainment, the team renowned for the hit game War Thunder (2013), is gearing up to release its latest venture into the world of aerial combat with Aces of Thunder. This highly anticipated VR game is heading to both PSVR 2 and PC VR headsets within the year.
When first announced in 2023, Aces of Thunder was slated for a Q4 2024 launch. The game is expected to dazzle VR enthusiasts by bringing some of the most famous World War aircraft to life on platforms like SteamVR and PSVR 2.
Thus far, Gaijin Entertainment has not only teased a fantastic array of aircraft from the WWII era but has also revealed an intriguing selection of planes from WWI.
“Including legendary fighters such as the Fokker Dr.I, piloted by the iconic Red Baron, and the SPAD S.XIII, cherished by René Fonck, the Allies’ top ace, Aces of Thunder promises to offer players meticulously detailed cockpits, historically accurate weaponry, and lifelike flight mechanics, creating an unbeatable and immersive gameplay experience,” the developers shared.
On top of the impressive lineup of WWI aircraft, the game won’t fall short on WWII planes, offering players the chance to pilot the American P-51 Mustang and P-63 Kingcobra fighters, the German Bf 109 and Fw 190 fighters, the Soviet IL-2 attack aircraft, the British Spitfire fighter, and the iconic Japanese A6M3 Zero.
As for the exact release date, that’s still under wraps. However, Gaijin tells Road to VR that now we can expect the launch sometime in 2025. Until then, eager fans can add Aces of Thunder to their wishlist on Steam and PlayStation Store for PSVR 2.
While the game’s price tag remains a mystery, rest assured we’re staying alert for any updates on this exciting new chapter in virtual aerial combat gaming.
