Minisforum recently pulled back the curtain on its upcoming AMD Ryzen-powered innovations, showcasing fresh concepts in MoTD and Mini PC formats featuring the robust Ryzen 9 9955HX "Fire Range" CPU.
At the heart of its latest advancements unveiled during "Japan IT Spring Week," Minisforum is leveraging AMD’s cutting-edge Ryzen CPUs across a variety of products, including MoTD (Mobile on Desktop) motherboards, compact Mini PCs, and sophisticated NAS systems.
Introducing the Minisforum F1FGM MoTD Motherboard
The spotlight first falls on Minisforum’s "F1FGM" MoTD motherboard, a notable continuation in their well-regarded series. It’s designed in a compact mATX form factor featuring efficient heatsinks spread across critical components such as the VRMs, M.2 Slots, and PCH, with an added IO cover to boot. This board stands as the true heir to their previous BD770i and BD790i series, embracing the power of Dragon Range "Ryzen 7000HX" CPUs and stepping up to the new Fire Range "Ryzen 9000HX" series.
This motherboard can be loaded with the AMD Ryzen 9 9955HX CPU, boasting an impressive 16 cores and 32 threads built on the Zen 5 core architecture. Capable of ramping up to a 5.4 GHz boost clock and offering a solid 64 MB of L3 cache, the chip’s default power rating is 55W, but it can be cranked up to an exhilarating 160W on this particular setup for premium user enhancement.
In addition to other CPU configurations, including an "X3D" variant, the motherboard is teamed with a vapor chamber baseplate cooler to tackle the heat, as these mobile CPUs lack an IHS. Meanwhile, its VRM presents a sturdy 13-Phase Duet rail design with powerful 60A SPS power stages.
The board’s specifications are just as enticing. It supports four DDR5 DIMM slots in a UDIMM layout, accommodating up to 256 GB of memory with impressive speeds scaling to 8000. With the X870M chipset onboard, designed akin to a mobile-grade setup resembling the B850 series, the board comes with dual PCIe slots (5.0 x16 & 4.0 x16) and three M.2 slots—one pushing Gen5x4 speeds. Not to mention, there are two SATA III ports and advanced IO options like USB4, 5GbE LAN, and Wi-Fi 7, plus Twin BIOS DEBUG LEDs for good measure.
Unveiling the Minisforum MS-A2 Mini PC
Their other new gem, the MS-A2 Mini PC, carries the AMD Ryzen 9000HX "Fire Range" CPUs into a compact design. This follows their MS-A1 series’ footsteps, which utilized Ryzen 8000G CPUs. These Mini PCs are also outfitted with the latest IO amenities, including three M.2 slots (with a U.2 usage option), a generous 10 GbE LAN via an SFP+ port, and a PCIe 4.0 x8 slot meant for low-profile cards.
Differing from the MoTD, this Mini PC sports a motherboard with two SO-DIMM slots, supporting up to 96 GB of memory at speeds reaching 5200 MT/s. Connectively, it boasts 2 USB 3.2 Gen Type-C ports, 2 USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports, a lone USB 2.0 port, dual 10 GbE LAN connections, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.0, and both DP+HDMI outputs.
The Power-Packed Minisforum N5 PRO NAS
Lastly, we look at the Strix-driven "N5 PRO" NAS housing the potent AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 CPU with 12 cores and 24 threads, alongside the Radeon 890M iGPU. This NAS is engineered to accommodate five 3.5-inch drive bays with RAID capability and provides a tool-free approach for easy drive management. Maxing out at 48 GB of DDR5 SO-DIMMs and featuring a single PCIe 4.0 x4 slot for video output, the N5 PRO is a formidable storage solution.
These drive bays support up to 22 TB of storage each, complemented by three PCIe 4.0 M.2 slots (2x Gen4x1 and 1x Gen4x2) for further expansion. Connectivity interfaces include a 10 GbE and a 5 GbE Ethernet port, supplemented by three USB 3.2 Gen1 ports.
Expect Minisforum to roll out these advanced products in the coming months, keeping an eye out for further updates in this exciting lineup.
