“The game’s distinct visual flair receives a significant boost with the updated HD resolution and 60FPS performance, which really enhances the fluidity of swordplay,” remarks Director Motohide Eshiro. “With the shift to widescreen TVs over the years, we’ve adjusted the game’s visuals to seamlessly fit these screens. This not only enlarges the image but also makes the battle scenes feel more thrilling and immersive.”
I couldn’t agree more. The swordplay is extremely sharp and allows for precise strikes and blocks, creating battles that feel intensely personal. This is particularly evident in the tight temple corridors, where I find myself engaged in fierce demon onslaughts, working to master the powerful issen counterattack, and absorbing enemy souls for experience points.
“When someone dives into this remaster in 2025, they should experience the same thrill players felt back in 2002,” Eshiro continues. “This goal has kept us focused on preserving the core features and charm of the game, while updating certain elements to match modern gaming expectations. Thanks to access to the original game’s assets, which were already top-notch for their time, we’ve managed a seamless enhancement. Back in 2002, the standard CRT displays couldn’t do justice to these assets, but with state-of-the-art upscaling and uprezzing techniques, we’ve brought out all their intricate details for today’s HD screens. This also applies to the dynamic backgrounds, like flowing rivers, which are now more stunning than ever.”
