As the PlayStation 5 takes center stage for PlayStation enthusiasts, it’s becoming clear that the PlayStation 4’s role is fading away. One notable example of this shift involves a widely-loved MMORPG transitioning out of its older version, while generously offering a free upgrade to its next-gen counterpart.
### Black Desert Online for PS4 is Saying Goodbye
Pearl Abyss has officially declared that it will discontinue the PS4 and Xbox One versions of Black Desert Online. Gamers still have a brief window to explore and enjoy the MMORPG on these platforms before making the leap to the latest console generation. The crucial date to mark on your calendar is June 26, as that’s when the PS4 and Xbox One editions officially close shop for maintenance. Thankfully, the transition to the updated version is complimentary, ensuring all your account details and purchases make the journey with you.
“Your game data is in safe hands,” assures Brian Choi, Black Desert Console Live Service Manager, regarding the move from PS4 to PS5. “All your account info and entitlements will be right there when you decide to embrace the PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series console. We understand this change might not be easy for everyone. However, rest assured, Black Desert will continue to evolve, delivering a better experience for adventurers.”
Choi elaborates, “While we’ve continuously worked to enhance and optimize content for the older generation consoles, we’ve hit a wall in terms of hardware capabilities which makes it hard to smoothly integrate the latest content. After much thought, we realized that focusing on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series editions will allow us to offer a more robust and polished experience.”
When Black Desert Online first reached US shores in 2016, it stirred up a diverse range of opinions. The review aggregator Metacritic pegged its average score at 73 out of 100, based on assessments from 35 critics. It made its way onto PS4 and Xbox One by 2019, further expanding its reach and influence.
