Treyarch has pulled back the curtain on the eagerly anticipated new Zombie map for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, titled "Shattered Veil." The good news? It’s dropping a little sooner than we initially thought.
Originally slated to kick off in late March, Season 3 of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 was pushed to April 3. However, Activision surprised us by moving up the launch to April 2 for the multiplayer and Zombies mode. But hold tight if you’re itching for Verdansk’s return in Call of Duty: Warzone—it’s staying on schedule for release on April 3.
In true Treyarch fashion, the new map gives a fresh twist on the Dark Aether storyline, which has captivated us through Black Ops 6’s Zombies mode. After securing the Sentinel Artifact, our intrepid crew now finds themselves at an eerie old mansion nestled in the wooded hills of West Virginia, not far from Liberty Falls.
Rumors have it this is the same mansion from the original Liberty Falls cinematic. Get ready for some creative carnage, as players will have access to new microwave traps that fry zombies and a Dark Aether Field Generator that can vaporize the undead using dark aether energy. But a word to the wise: don’t stumble into your own traps.
The mansion features some jaw-dropping elements, like a full T-Rex skeleton, but that’s just the tip of what’s in store for Zombies in Season 3.
New adversaries like the Elder Disciple glide ominously over the mansion’s estate, boosting both their powers and those of the zombies around them. These spirits can summon extra zombies to reinforce their might and can transform ordinary zombies into the more daunting Doppelghasts or other formidable foes.
Expect another fresh threat with the toxic zombies. The mansion’s grounds become shrouded in a poisonous fog, birthing green-tinted sprinting zombies that explode, leaving behind hazardous acid puddles for players to navigate.
Season 3 isn’t just delivering new challenges; it’s also bringing back some old favorites, like the Double Tap perk-a-cola. Longtime fans will recognize this rapid-fire perk from Black Ops 3, now available in Shattered Veil and other Black Ops 6 Zombies maps through the Der Wunderfizz machine.
This time around, Double Tap boasts the following upgrades:
Major Augments:
- Double Jeopardy: Normal zombies at low health might just keel over from a single shot.
- Double Impact: Quick successive hits on the same enemy hit harder.
- Double Standard: Non-critical shots inflict double damage, but only for regular bullet weapons.
Minor Augments:
- Double Time: Boosts fire rate further.
- Double or Nothing: A gamble where hits might deal double damage but also risk dealing zero.
- Double Play: Score a rapid double kill, and your magazine might get a two-round replenishment, applicable only to normal bullet weapons.
Look out for two new wonder weapons, plus their extra variants. The Ray Gun Mark II brings a new twist with its three-round burst and variants that include SMG-like bullet patterns, the chance to ignite foes, battering add-ons, a shotgun-style blast pattern offering temporary invincibility, and a marksman pattern with potential area-of-effect damage.
The Wunderwaffe DG-2 is also returning, equipped with electrifying chain-lightning blasts that might just immobilize hordes of zombies for additional damage.
Fans can also expect three new Gobblegums popping up in all maps, offering handy aid during those overwhelming moments in the horde:
- Tactical Diffusion (Rare): Instead of triggering a Nuke Power-Up explosion, dissipate it for an instant 2,000 Essence bonus for everyone.
- Support Group (Legendary): Grab this GobbleGum for support items like the ARC-XD, Mangler Cannon, Sentry Gun, and Mutant Injection.
- Die Pitched (Whimsical): Enjoy three minutes of zombies speaking in exaggerated high-pitched tones.
With the returning Death Machine scorestreak purchasable in Zombies for 1750 salvage, there’s no shortage of tools and tactics to dive into.
If mastering the Dark Aether storyline in Zombies seems daunting, hang tight until the MidSeason refresh. Directed Mode for Shattered Veil will be part of this update, alongside a limited-time Team Cranked mode and a brand-new Frost Blast field upgrade.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is ready for play on Xbox, PlayStation, and PC through Steam, Battle.net, the Microsoft Store, and the Xbox app. Plus, a free trial that includes Zombies content is launching with Season 2 on April 2 at 9 AM PT on all platforms. And for those on PC or Xbox holding an Xbox Game Pass subscription, there’s no need to wait—you can jump in right now!
