MSI recently addressed swirling rumors about a supposed recall of NVIDIA RTX 5090s, sparked by a fire hazard concern. Stepping forward, the company strongly refuted these claims, asserting that the retailer responsible isn’t one of their authorized partners.
According to MSI, reports emerged that sparked widespread attention. It all started when a retailer in the Netherlands claimed NVIDIA was recalling its GeForce RTX 5090s due to fire risk, specifically highlighting an MSI SUPRIM variant. This caused quite a stir, prompting MSI to issue a response swiftly. Here’s the crux of what they had to say:
They shared their dismay over an article they discovered on March 6, 2025, on the Kitguru website. It detailed that the Dutch retailer, UW GAME SPECIALIST, allegedly informed a customer of the inability to fulfill their order due to a claimed recall of 5 GeForce RTX 5090 32G Suprim SOC units from MSI, citing fire hazards as the reason.
MSI categorically denied these allegations, confirming no such recall exists and their products do not pose such risks. They emphasized that this retailer isn’t an MSI partner and warned of potential legal action against those spreading these baseless and damaging rumors.
In their statement, MSI advised customers to purchase from authorized resellers. They listed several trustworthy options, including Megekko, Azerty, and Coolblue, among others.
With MSI’s clarification, the buzz around NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 5090 facing another flaw has simmered down. If there had indeed been a fire hazard, many would have speculated about issues with the power connector. NVIDIA’s already juggling supply challenges and other problems, like missing ROPs and black screen incidents, with its RTX 50 series.
For now, users shouldn’t fret over their RTX 5090s catching fire, as MSI reassures us of the nonexistence of such concerns. Nevertheless, it remains prudent to exercise caution when handling the flagship RTX Blackwell GPU.
