Studio Fizbin, the creative minds behind Reignbreaker, is sadly bidding farewell later this month. In a heartfelt announcement on their website, captured by the folks over at Game Developer, the company shared that it will close its doors after Reignbreaker releases on March 18th. The founder and CEO, Alexander Pieper, attributes this decision largely to Thunderful’s move to significantly scale down internal development efforts.
“The gaming industry is navigating through challenging times, and like many other fantastic studios, we’ve felt the impact,” Pieper expressed candidly.
He went on to explain, “Last November, Thunderful, our parent company, chose to make significant cuts in internal development. This change, as Thunderful’s CEO Martin outlined in the most recent quarterly report, unfortunately affected Studio Fizbin. Ever since, we’ve been searching for different opportunities to pursue post-Reignbreaker. However, none of these prospects panned out, leaving us with no choice but to make the tough call to close.”
Pieper continued, expressing gratitude, “To all our fans, thank you for your unwavering support through your purchases, artwork, feedback, and reviews. Your passion has been an endless source of encouragement for us.”
He added, “A heartfelt thanks also goes out to all our business collaborators, Medienboard, the MfG, Creative Europe, and our federal funding partners for their steadfast support.”
Concluding with a personal note, Pieper said, “And most importantly, we extend our deepest gratitude to our team—those who are with us till the end and those who’ve ventured onto new paths. The heart and soul of Fizbin and its projects are its team members, who have turned our shared vision into reality, making gaming’s most complex magic trick a tangible experience: creating games.”
