Phasmophobia has taken the gaming world by storm, especially since its breakout on Twitch back in 2020. Fast forward to now, and Kinetic Games announced on Monday that the game has racked up sales of over 22 million copies. As we look to 2025, there’s an exciting lineup on the horizon for this co-op ghost hunting sensation. The developers have an ambitious roadmap ahead, and one of the key highlights is giving the player character models a much-needed facelift. Here’s a closer look at the tweaks and transformations set for later this year, as shared in their recent press update.
The first big change for Phasmophobia this year is the Chronicle update, revealed earlier through a developer blog post. Kinetic Games plans to overhaul the way players collect evidence — imagine capturing those ghostly temperature changes and spooky noises, which you’ll now be able to archive. This Chronicle update will swap out the Photos tab with a new Media tab. So, if your buddy is too busy screaming in fear or arguing in the midst of a ghostly encounter, you won’t miss capturing those chilling moments.
Another cool addition here is the more detailed data collection. The first time you capture any type of media, it gets labeled as Unique, earning you hefty rewards when you wrap up a mission. Repeated captures will score you less, nudging players to experiment with different tools and gather a diverse collection of evidence.
After the Chronicle update, they’ll roll out the Player Character Overhaul. Right now, your character options are pretty basic—limited avatars that lack much flair. But judging from the roadmap, we might soon have the freedom to switch up our outfits and customize our avatars’ looks, breaking away from those ordinary button-downs and bland attire.
As the year progresses, Kinetic Games plans to introduce a fresh map to the game. They describe it as “cozy,” much like the existing house maps. Plus, players can expect significant changes to classic locations like the Bleasdale and Grafton Farmhouses, including redesigned layouts and brand-new rooms for ghosts to spook you from. There are also hints about seasonal updates for occasions like Easter and Halloween. Notably, there are teasers for features coming in 2026, including something intriguingly named “Horror 2.0,” which certainly sparks curiosity.
