After endless rumors and a seemingly eternal wait, Nintendo has finally laid all speculation to rest by announcing the Switch 2, the much-anticipated successor to the beloved Switch console.
Their latest update video showcases this new system, which boasts a screen even bigger than that of the Switch OLED. The Joy-Con controllers have also had a facelift, now larger and equipped with a small clip on each side for easy attachment when playing handheld. For those who enjoy gaming on a tabletop, the Switch 2 features a kickstand that allows it to lay almost flat. In a reassuring move for fans, it’ll be backward compatible, playing both Switch 1 cartridges and digital downloads. Mark your calendars because the launch is set for some time in 2025.
While the update didn’t specifically highlight any new games, eagle-eyed viewers spotted what seems to be a fresh Mario Kart track. Exciting developments are just around the corner with a special Nintendo Direct focused on the Switch 2 scheduled for April 2, 2025. As if that weren’t enough, hands-on events will shortly follow, bringing the new system directly to excited fans worldwide. Here’s the lineup for these events, according to Nintendo:
In North America, events will be held in New York from April 4 to 6, Los Angeles April 11 to 13, and in both Dallas and Toronto from April 25 to 27.
Meanwhile, European gamers can join in Paris from April 4 to 6, in London from April 11 to 13, and in Milan and Berlin from April 25 to 27, with additional events in Madrid and Amsterdam from May 9 to 11.
This is shaping up to be an exhilarating time for Nintendo fans as the Switch 2 prepares to make a grand entrance.
