PowerWash Simulator fans who enjoy VR on the Quest device received some unfortunate news today. FuturLab, the developer behind the popular game, announced they are halting support for the VR version. The decision was made due to financial constraints and the need to safeguard job security within the company.
Earlier today, Kirsty Rigden, CEO of FuturLab, shared this update, confirming that future support for the VR version of PowerWash Simulator is officially coming to an end. Rigden emphasized the team’s passion for VR, but pointed out that their investment in the platform wasn’t financially sustainable as it cost more than it generated.
“This isn’t the end of our exploration in VR,” Rigden reassured fans. However, for the time being, the team dedicated to the VR version has been reassigned to other projects. This move was primarily driven by the company’s commitment to ensuring job security for its staff, making it unlikely that official support for the VR component will resume in the near future.
For those interested in the full context, here’s what Rigden had to say in detail:
“I’m really sorry to announce that we won’t be able to continue supporting PowerWash Simulator VR. While we’re big fans of VR and hope to engage more with it down the line, it’s not feasible for us to provide support at this moment.”
She continued, “We faced a decision point: continue with an excellent VR team working on a costly platform, or allocate them to other necessary roles in the company. Prioritizing team stability led us to integrate our VR experts into other ventures. Despite understanding the disappointment this causes, I believe anyone in my shoes would make the same call.”
While the main game on standard platforms is still receiving fresh content, such as new Shrek and Wallace & Gromit packs, updates for the Quest version have been sparse. Since the special Alice’s Adventures pack released last June, there’s been a noticeable gap in new VR content. Prior to this, the VR version had been enriched with add-ons like the Muckingham Files and collaborations with beloved franchises like SpongeBob SquarePants and Back to the Future.
For those who already own PowerWash Simulator VR or its associated DLC, the good news is it will remain accessible on the Meta Quest platform. FuturLab has no intention of removing it, allowing players to continue enjoying this immersive experience.
