“We’ve already achieved enough sales to make the project profitable,” revealed Krippa, as translated by ITC. “Our team put in almost around-the-clock work leading up to the launch. They were completely dedicated to this project, especially considering the ongoing war. It was our goal to instill hope and pride in our country, to prove that Ukrainians are capable of creating projects at such a high level.”
STALKER 2 required a significant investment from GSC Game World, amounting to tens of millions of dollars. Most of this budget was directed toward core development, with minimal funds allocated for marketing, as per the report. The game found its largest audience in the United States, and its popularity soared in Ukraine to the point where downloads put a substantial strain on the country’s internet infrastructure.
Thanks to this impressive success, Krippa mentioned that STALKER 2 is set to receive at least two expansions, along with a multiplayer component. Although specifics weren’t provided, Krippa is optimistic that the STALKER franchise can elevate Ukraine’s standing in the gaming world, drawing a parallel with how CD Projekt Red highlighted Poland with The Witcher series.
“I’d love for us to get the series on Netflix,” Krippa noted. “There are some discussions happening, although nothing is confirmed just yet.”
STALKER 2’s creative director, Mariia Grygorovych, expressed candid honesty in an interview with Eurogamer on December 4. “It’s not perfect, we have areas to improve and a few issues,” she admitted. “But it’s a game filled with soul, with emotion, and love. Even with its flaws, you can’t fix them unless you have a game to begin with.”
