The much-anticipated co-op mode for Green Hell VR, a VR reimagining of the beloved open-world survival game by Incuvo, is finally hitting Quest and PSVR 2 platforms this month. If you’ve been eagerly waiting to team up with friends, mark your calendar for December 16th when this update becomes available—at no extra cost for current game owners on PSVR 2 and Meta’s Quest 2, 3, and 3S.
This cooperative feature takes the intense solo survival experience to a whole new level, enabling up to four players to team up. Imagine banding together, wielding both melee and ranged weapons, to hunt for food and ward off the jungle’s treacherous wildlife. Additionally, constructing shelters becomes a shared task to protect against environmental challenges. A unique aspect of this co-op feature is its attention to teamwork and care; players can visibly see when someone needs medical assistance. Spotting and removing pesky leeches has never been more of a group effort!
However, there’s a catch that might disappoint some—there’s no cross-platform play in this release. So, whether you’re on a Quest or PSVR 2, you can’t connect with friends on different systems, including PC VR users. The developers explained on X, formerly Twitter, that their focus was solely on getting the multiplayer update right. They acknowledged that adding cross-play support would have delayed the release further, but hinted that it remains a possibility for the future.
Incuvo’s CEO, Andrzej Wychowaniec, emphasized the significance of this update: “We’re thrilled to introduce co-op to our VR community on Meta Quest and PSVR2. We know players have been looking forward to this collaborative experience ever since our initial release, and we’ve worked hard to meet those expectations.”
As for those on the SteamVR platform, there’s still no word on whether this co-op mode will be ported over. The PC VR version hasn’t seen much action since late 2022, as the studio focused its efforts on delivering the ‘Spirits of Amazonia Part I’ expansion to Quest and PSVR 2. So, while SteamVR users might still have to wait, the future remains open-ended.
