It seems like Baldur’s Gate 3 is in no hurry to say goodbye just yet. Excitingly, more content is coming next year, giving diehard fans yet another reason to dive back into this immersive world—perhaps for the eleventh time! Meanwhile, I’m still working through my very first playthrough.
The game’s social media and a blog post on Steam shared the good news: Baldur’s Gate 3 hasn’t seen its final major content update. Although Larian, the developers, previously hinted they were wrapping things up, it looks like they’re not quite ready to bid farewell. Much like the beloved titles Terraria and Binding of Isaac, it might be a while before they truly let go.
Despite a wealth of user-made mods keeping the game lively, Larian is eager to gift fans with even more content. Next year’s Patch 8, which they’re claiming (for real this time!) is the last, promises to introduce cross-play, a photo mode, and 12 brand-new subclasses. The photo mode has been a long-requested feature, while cross-play is a pleasantly unexpected addition that will enhance the game’s social aspect. And as for those new subclasses, get ready for players re-rolling characters all over again—Dungeons & Dragons aficionados are surely delighted.
Here’s what to expect: cross-play will be introduced, offering full cross-platform progression and cross-play capabilities. Players can share and create game lobbies with friends on different platforms, although it’s not entirely clear yet if they’ll be able to open these lobbies to the public for random gamers to join.
The photo mode is debuting with a slew of features, such as camera and lens adjustments, scene modifiers like poses and expressions, post-processing effects, frames, and even stickers. We can already envision how the game’s most dedicated players will combine these tools with mods—prepare for some adventurous content!
On top of all this, each of the 12 classes is getting a shiny new subclass. Here’s what’s coming:
– Bard – College of Glamour
– Barbarian – Path of Giants
– Cleric – Death Domain
– Druid – Circle of Stars
– Paladin – Oath of the Crown
– Fighter – Arcane Archer
– Monk – Drunken Master
– Ranger – Swarmkeeper
– Rogue – Swashbuckler
– Sorcerer – Shadow Magic
– Warlock – Hexblade
– Wizard – Bladesinging
Also worth noting, before these exciting updates drop, ‘stress tests’ will occur in January to finetune cross-play and address any necessary fixes coming with Patch 8. Consequently, we shouldn’t expect the complete release until February 2025 at the earliest. Stay tuned for more updates as we get closer to the big day!
