We’re currently putting together a review for Mythwrecked: Ambrosia Island, so I reached out to Alex Kanaris-Sotiriou, one of the co-founders of Polygon Treehouse, to discuss the game. Dive in to see what we talked about!
PS4Blog: Hey, good morning! It’s great to have you back with us. How have things been going on your end?
Alex: Thanks! Things have certainly been busy. Since we released our last indie game, Röki, I’ve been immersed in examining folklore and mythology from a new angle with Mythwrecked. Unlike Röki’s focus on Scandinavian folklore, this game imagines how the Greek gods might fit into today’s world.
PS4B: Mythwrecked: Ambrosia Island is set to land on the Nintendo Switch on December 5. Can you share a bit about what players can expect from this new journey?
Alex: Of course! We like to call Mythwrecked: Ambrosia Island an "explore-o-story" game. Players step into the shoes of Alex, a backpacker looking to escape the hustle and bustle of modern life. However, things take an unexpected turn when a sudden storm leaves Alex stranded on a forgotten island. Throughout the game, you’ll befriend gods from Greek mythology, help them regain their memories, and search for a way back home.
PS4B: When did you begin working on this project? Also, how much has the game evolved from your initial concept to the version players will soon get to explore?
Alex: We embarked on this journey about three years ago. Most of the major concepts, like the treasure hunting radar and memory flashbacks, have remained consistent. However, the ‘Story Sandbox’—which involves interacting with the gods and seeing conversations unfold—has seen several iterations. I’m really happy with the final design because it gives players an immersive sense of being right at the heart of the unfolding story.
PS4B: Röki had a physical release last time. I was curious if we might see something similar for Mythwrecked: Ambrosia Island.
Alex: I absolutely love physical editions and am thrilled Röki received one. There’s no news just yet for a physical release of Mythwrecked, but it’s certainly something I’d love to see down the line.
PS4B: Before we wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to add?
Alex: Just a huge thank you to everyone for their interest! If you’re into cozy games, mythology, adventure, or mystery, I really hope you’ll check out Mythwrecked: Ambrosia Island. We believe it’ll be an indie adventure to remember!
