Bigscreen Beyond is reshaping the VR landscape with its incredibly compact and lightweight design, crafted specifically for extended PC-based virtual reality sessions without discomfort. With a price tag of $1,000 or an option to pay $32 monthly, it’s worth noting that the headset doesn’t come equipped with positional tracking or controllers out of the box. Instead, it operates on the SteamVR Tracking system, requiring you to have at least one base station—preferably two—and your own input devices like the Valve Index controllers.
The headset features a basic cloth strap and lacks built-in audio. It doesn’t even have a headphone jack, though it does come with a USB-C port for connecting audio devices. To enhance your experience, Bigscreen offers an Audio Strap accessory, available for an additional $130, which improves both audio quality and comfort.
In our review of the Beyond, we couldn’t help but admire its petite size and the extraordinary comfort it provides, allowing for long VR sessions that won’t leave your face sore—a common issue with other headsets. Yet, it’s not without its drawbacks. The lenses, while striving for compactness, introduce some irritating reflections and blur. Nonetheless, Beyond marks the advent of a new generation of headsets focused on user comfort, setting a benchmark that others are now eager to meet or surpass.
